Welcome to the Third Beall Blog! Important information on NCSSM and 3rd Beall life (plus pictures from the month before) will be posted here at the start of each month
We have had an incredibly busy weekend on campus getting to know eachother. I know dropping your kid off can be hard, so I like to have a special post just for the beginning of the year to help keep parents in the loop about all the activities and reasources available to students as they are moving in and learning to navigate NCSSM and living at school.
Use the menu below to navigate quickly through the contents of this month's update:
We have gotten to do quite a lot in just a few days on campus! Juniors enjoyed a welcome picnic (which included the excitement of running inside from the rain) and an ice cream social provided by SAB on just the first night! They have been able to meet with multiple departments on campus, including residential education, student life and campus safety and have had tours around campus from RLAs and other Senior Leadership students. On Sunday the 3rd Beall Juniors joined our sibling hall on a walk up to 9th street before doing ice-breakers together. We had our first full hall meeting where we discussed community expectations and the type of actions we want to do to help build a welcoming and safe community on hall. This is more photos than I usually post, but somehow I wish I had taken more pictures during some of our meetings together! I will share more with our update at the end of the month.
Here is the slide deck shared with Junior Families on move-in day. I added a slide with some info on reaching campus via mail and phone as well as ways to be involved due to parent questions. It was great getting to meet all of you, and I am so thankful for your attention and care for both your children and the other students on our hall!
As students prepare for the first extended weekend it is important to understand that we use a special sign out for these weekends away from NCSSM:
Halls close at 5pm on Friday, September 4th and reopen at noon on Monday, September 7th.
CCs will confirm that all students have submitted an Orah pass at their weekly hall meeting. On this pass, students should indicate where they are going for the break, who they are traveling with, and how they are getting to their location.
If a student is not departing early, is not returning to campus late, is not taking a train or Greyhound bus home, and their final destination is home or they are being picked-up by a parent/guardian, they do not need to sign out at Bryan Desk (this only applies to extended weekends).
EmSo will write a note in your child's pass indicating if they need to sign out or not for the extended.
If a student is departing before the day the Extended Weekend begins or returning to campus late they will need to have a parent/guardian sign them out at Bryan desk or submit an overnight pass on Orah and sign out at Bryan desk with whomever is picking them up.
If a student's final destination is not home and they are not being picked up by a parent/guardian, or if they are taking the train or Greyhound bus, they will need to submit an overnight pass on Orah and sign out at the Bryan desk.
