Welcome to the Third Beall Blog! Important information on NCSSM and 3rd Beall life (plus pictures from the month before) will be posted here at the start of each month. In August I am posting a special update for the first full week of classes.
We have officially finished the first week of classes at NCSSM for the 2025-2026 School Year! 3rd Beallians have been very busy all week, and we were maybe even busier in the few days leading up to classes. Our 14 delightful Juniors moved in on Friday the 8th and were joined by the rest of the hall on the 10th. Despite the rain, everyone was able to have fun on campus both indoors and out. Students had a special picnic on Bryan Lawn, got ice-cream provided by student government, and had a chance to learn about all the clubs on campus during club fair. On hall we have had game nights, puzzling time, and lots of hanging out on the hall couches. 3rd Beallians have also had a chance to get off campus. Seniors took some of the juniors on tours of ninth street and downtown, getting to show off some of the cool things Durham has to offer (and staying in a group of course!) We have also already taken 2 trips to target and cook-out to pick-up anything they forgot for their rooms and milkshakes.
It has been a great first week and I am so excited to continue getting to know all the 3rd Beallians. I left some of the contact information from the last post so that you can save it if needed!
There are a few ways to get involved with life on campus from far away. Two ways to directly support the hall are by signing up to provide snack at hall meetings and by helping out with our amazon wish list. Students on hall are always very grateful to have a fun snack after hall meeting, and I am happy to work with parents to help pick up items if you want to order something from within Durham. Hall Snack can be anything from cake and pizza to fruit or bags of chips. Items of the hall wish list range from extra snacks for the hall to items for future hall activities (I am hoping to make terrariums this year) and cleaning supplies. If there is something else you think the hall would enjoy feel free to reach out to me and I will see what we can do together!
If you need to get in touch with me, you can reach me by email at emso.stanion@ncssm.edu. I check my email often and will respond within 24 hours. I can also be reached by call or text message at 919-416-2722. I am fastest to respond to emails and text messages. Please remember that I often am working during the evenings and late nights, so it is best to send me an email to schedule a phone call if you would like to discuss something. Your students will see me often on hall and can always feel free to text me, or send me a google chat!
To send mail to your student, use your student's name and the address 1219 Broad Street, Durham NC 27705. If you are sending a delivery (or entering an address in your GPS to come visit) use the address 1912 W Club Boulevard, Durham NC 27705
I wanted to make sure everyone knows what to expect from me in regards to regular hall updates. On the 1st of each month I will post an update to the blog section of the hall google site and send an email alerting you that the update is live. These posts will include recaps of the past few weeks on hall, updates on major hall and campus events, reminders about upcoming events and deadlines, and photos of the student experience on campus.
CCs are available 24 hours a day to assist your students. The Bryan CC desk is staffed each day from 7:30am to 1:00am. All other CC building offices are staffed from 6:30pm to 1:00am each day. Outside of these hours there will always be two CCs on call while students are on campus. The contact numbers for the on-call CCs are posted at each CC desk and can be viewed here. If your student has an emergency they are encouraged to reach out to the on duty CCs.
NCSSM also has Campus Safety Officers available 24 hours. They can be contacted at 919-416-2911 or 919-416-2711.
As students prepare for the first extended weekend it is important to understand that we use a special sign out for these weekends away from NCSSM:
Halls close at 5pm on Friday, August 29th and reopen at noon on Monday, September 1st.
CCs will confirm that all students have submitted an Orah pass at their weekly hall meeting. On this pass, students should indicate where they are going for the break, who they are traveling with, and how they are getting to their location.
If a student is not departing early, is not returning to campus late, is not taking a train or Greyhound bus home, and their final destination is home or they are being picked-up by a parent/guardian, they do not need to sign out at Bryan Desk (this only applies to extended weekends).
If a student is departing before the day the Extended Weekend begins or returning to campus late they will need to have a parent/guardian sign them out at Bryan desk or submit an overnight pass on Orah and sign out at Bryan desk with whomever is picking them up.
If a student's final destination is not home and they are not being picked up by a parent/guardian, or if they are taking the train or Greyhound bus, they will need to submit an overnight pass on Orah and sign out at the Bryan desk.
