Hello 3rd Beall families, I can't believe the school year is coming to an end! Students will have a very busy time returning to AP and final exams before commencement and move-out, so I hope everyone is getting some time to recharge during the final extended of the year! I have enjoyed getting to watch our Third Beallians grow and become confident in themselves and at school, and I am so excited for our seniors who will be graduating at the end of the month.
We have a lot of important announcements including move-out this month, so please make sure to read through them carefully with your students.
Use the menu below to navigate quickly through the contents of this month's update:
April started with a majestic night in wonderland where many of our 3rd Beallians dressed up and went over to the Museum of Life and Science for NCSSM prom. Many of our students also performed in Africa Fest! The rest of the month was busy and exciting on hall, with our Juniors finding out which campus service they will do next year and warmer weather allowing for more activities outside. We also enjoyed food together in the lounge, food runs off campus, and our second to last 3rd Beall Karaoke of the school year!
Next Month will be packed with end-of-the-year activities as well as study halls and study breaks to prepare for exam season!
Juniors must submit the following form to indicate whether or not they intend to move out of their residence hall on Wednesday, May 20 OR Friday, May 22. Juniors who do NOT wish to participate in Commencement exercises must move out of their residence hall and check out with their CC between 1:00pm and 5:00pm on Wednesday, May 20. Juniors who wish to remain on campus after exams to participate in end-of-year activities and Commencement exercises must move out of their residence hall and check out with their CC prior to 3:00pm on Friday, May 22.
Seniors must move out of their residence hall and check out with their CC prior to 3:00pm on Friday, May 22.
During the week leading up to move out, students will have specific tasks to complete each day to ensure that they will be ready on the day they move out. The Final Week Checklist will be posted on the door of each room and will be checked each night by their CC. Please note that students will NOT be permitted to attend hall or campus events until their CC confirms that all tasks have been completed.
Once a student is ready to move out, their CC will stop by their room and confirm that they have properly followed all Checkout Procedures. Please note that the student and a legal guardian will both need to be present to sign the Room Condition Report to complete the checkout process. Once all checkout procedures have been completed, the student will immediately leave campus. Students who check out prior to Friday, May 22 may return to campus for the Commencement ceremony ONLY and should not return to campus for any other reason.
Move out tips:
If you have extra bins/boxes at home, bring them back with you when you return to campus in May. Students often have trouble packing things up and it is a lot easier to get a head start if they have containers to put their belongings in
If you live close to to the school, I recommend coming by on a day (or multiple days) prior to commencement to start moving out some of your students things since it will make your commencement day much less stressful and will give you a chance to carry things when the building is less congested
I recommend bringing carts/wagons or other things with wheels to help carry your students belongings. There will not be any available during move-out, so they will help your and your family move out more easily
Please join us as we graduate our 45th class of residential students on Friday, May 22 at 9:00am on Watts Lawn. The ceremony is open to NCSSM seniors and their families. We welcome the junior class to participate in Commencement, though junior attendance is not mandatory. No tickets are required UNLESS inclement weather necessitates moving indoors. If Commencement is moved indoors, each senior will receive 4 wristbands: 2 wristbands for guests to attend Commencement in the Charles Eilber Physical Education Center (PEC), and 2 wristbands for guests to watch the Commencement livestream in locations around campus: the Auditorium, Lecture Hall, and Music Suite. If the ceremony is moved indoors, juniors (outside of Marshals and those performing music) will not participate in the ceremony and will move out of their rooms. Juniors and their families will be able to view the livestream of Commencement from off campus. As a reminder, all students must move out of their residence hall rooms and check out with their CC no later than 3 p.m. on Commencement day. The entire event will be live streamed on the NCSSM YouTube Channel. For more information about Commencement please visit: https://www.ncssm.edu/commencement
Students who remain on campus May 20 & 21 are invited to enjoy a two day end-of-year celebration that will feature an outdoor field day, glow-in-the-dark kickball, an inflatable water slide, a bounce house, food trucks, sweet treats, and one last Hill Street block party! Please encourage your student to attend these events to help say goodbye to the Class of 2026 and to close out a great school year!
In our last month of the year we are going to make sure to repeat some of the students favorite events we have done so far including both a Ramen and Quesadilla night as well as a last Karaoke night. We will also spend the last day of classes celebrating with our other 2 Beall halls doing some stereotypical after-school games and activities. 3rd Beallians will get a chance to get off campus with trips to Trader Joes, food runs, study trips for coffee and the library, and even Falls Lake! We will also celebrate the hall with a paper plate awards at the last hall meeting before move-out!
Class of 2026, you have put in an impressive amount of work these past two years and SAB has put together a special celebration to honor that! Join us on Friday, May 15th at 7:00PM on Bryan Lawn to celebrate the end of your NCSSM journey.
We hope you'll take the time to come out and dress up (dressy casual attire), enjoy some sweet treats, and appreciate the company of your classmates before commencement
