SPRING BREAK IS HERE!!! I'm so proud of all our students for making it to the final major break of the year! After spring break, time will feel like it is flying. In just a couple of weeks, we will be at our final extended weekend, and then before you know it we will be finishing up the year!
The Black Student Union (BSU) is thrilled to announce the last cultural fest of the year, AFRICAFEST: Love in Between! Please join us as we highlight different cultural experiences across the African diaspora by exploring our theme, Black Joy is an Act of Resistance, which celebrates the richness of our cultures and the reclamation of Black Humanity. We can not wait to showcase the uniqueness of what makes us whole, happy, and tells our stories!
All are welcome to attend the event, but due to limited seating, tickets (at no cost) will be required for admittance. Please be on the lookout for ticketing information coming soon!
The Senior Leadership Campus Service process is coming to a close. Senior Leadership announcements will be sent out on Monday, April 17 at 4:00pm and applicants will have until Thursday, April 20 to submit their decisions to program coordinators. Please note that the SLSC process does not account for every senior campus service assignment. Juniors should reach out to any employees that they may be interested in working with next year if they chose not to participate in the SLCS process.
Residence Halls will close on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 5:00pm and will reopen on Monday, April 10, 2023 at noon. Since this is a long break, residents must unplug all items in their room, including fridges and fish tanks. Residents should properly defrost their fridge to avoid puddles or mold growth over the break. This is also one of the last breaks of the year, so residents are encouraged to move out as many items as possible to make moving out in May much easier.
Signing out for this break is handled similarly to an extended weekend:
Students will sign an Extended Sheet on hall during hall meeting. On this form they indicate where they are going for the break, who they are traveling with, and how they are getting to their location.
If a student is not departing early and their final destination is home or they are being picked-up by a parent/guardian, they do not need to fill out any other forms other than the Extended Sheet on hall, including their LiveSafe app.
If a student is departing before the day the break begins they will need to have a parent/guardian sign them out at Bryan desk or complete the Student Travel Permission Form if someone other than a legal guardian is picking them up. They will also need to sign out on the LiveSafe App.
If a student's final destination is not home and they are not being collected by a parent/guardian, or if they are taking the train or GreyHound bus, they will need to complete a Student Travel Permission Form, sign out on LiveSafe, and sign out at the Bryan desk.
Prom will occur on April 15th at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham. Click HERE for details about the event, how to purchase tickets, transportation options, family volunteer opportunities, and more!
I want to especially call your attention to the family volunteer opportunities, as well as the prom vehicle permission form. If you would like to volunteer to help at prom, we have many ways for you to do so, and we welcome all the help you are willing to give us! Additionally, students are allowed to bring their personal vehicles to campus for prom, but they must submit a vehicle permission form and we will call parents to receive approval. See the website or reach out for more information!
As you and your student make plans for Prom 2023, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Prom Coordinators at prom@ncssm.edu with any questions.
Additionally, I am planning to provide a brunch for the students the day after prom. If you would like to help me with this effort by providing food or items from our Amazon wishlist, please let me know and I will happily connect with you and work that out!
We are so proud of our 3rd Beall residents who ran for student government positions!
Danna Mejia made us proud by having a very strong campaign for Student Body President, and we are so happy for Rishika Jalagam, our new student body treasurer, and our newly elected senior senators, Maddy Gordon and Jessily Chen. Way to represent 3rd Beall!
